Before releasing iOS updates to everyone, Apple releases Developer and Public betas.
One of the updates in 26.4 is that Stolen Device Protection will be on by default. (About Stolen Device Protection)
With it turned on, when your phone is away from a familiar location, it will require Face ID or Touch ID from changing some of the more important things on your phone. Some even require a security delay (waiting an hour) and then another biometric authentication before changes can be made.
Does it make your life harder, only a very tiny bit.
But what if someone has seen you enter your pin, then swipes your phone. Now they can get in and change your Apple ID and many other things.
That's what Stolen Device Protection aims to prevent.
This also would have helped Kieran Drew last month when his phone was swiped from his hand while he was actually talking on it! Once they were away from his home location, the phone would have required biometric authentication, and at least "some" of his problems wouldn't have occurred.
Sometimes forcing people to use security measures is the only way to make it happen. In this instance, it's a good thing!
Are you happy about this change?

Until next time,
